Pocket Edward prepares for New Moon by getting a wolf-pack six-pack

Just like every other Twilighter, I am in the throes of preparing for the upcoming New Moon premiere this week. If you are caught up on the latest Twilight Newborns podcast, you know Christen and I have passes for a New Moon screening in Cincinnati on Wednesday Nov. 18.

We hope we can get in since more passes are given out than there are seats. And we’re no Twilight fools. We saw the mammoth autograph cue line at TwiCon, and we witnessed how even a Pocket Edward can cause a stampede. These things can get intense.

So we’re formulating our strategy now to make sure we see the movie: (1) get there before school lets out (2) have bribe money (3) put in a good word with the Big Guy in the Sky.

The good thing is there is so much The Twilight Saga: New Moon goodness out there that preparing for the movie has been as easy as imprinting.

I wanted to share my list with you and let us know what you’re doing to get ready for the big premiere!

• Bought passes to see the New Moon screening on Wednesday thanks to Christen and her amazing Craigslist skillz
• Bought tickets to the midnight showing for Friday, Nov. 20. There is NEVER enough Edward!
• Listening the New Moon soundtrack on repeat in car, at work, in my dreams. My favorite song is “All I Believe In”, which is a bonus song from iTunes by The Magic Numbers And Amadou & Mariam. I skip to that song all the time.
  
• Catching up on Twilight podcasts. There are a plenitude of great podcasts out here (including our own, of course). If you want to supplement your Twilight Newborns podcasts, check out Imprint, Twilight Series Theories and The PattyCast.
• Recording those Twi-Cast TV appearances. Check out this list from MSN.
• Get Pocket Edward a werewolf outfit (See above). Or, better yet, get a Pocket Jacob.
• Checking out these Italy set photos from Chris, Fan of the Week Emeritus.
• Wash that Hot Topic “I Dreamed of Edward Cullen” t-shirt. Christen will thank me if I do.

Like good Twi-hards, the Twilight Newborns went to the DVD par-tay at Borders on March 20. And of course, MOPE (My Own Personal Edward) (aka Pocket Edward) joined us.

Big mistake.

Christen and I hung out in the back of the store, lounging around in the music section, as many teenagers filled the store. We pulled up some comfy seats with our cappuccinos and thought MOPE needed some air on the window sill.

The DVD party wasn't My Own Personal Edward's scene. He wanted to go. We should have listened.

Time passed by, and we were giggling about our impending DVD purchase. Girls came stopping to stare at us, but we didn’t think too much of it since this happens all the time as we’re gorgeous gals.

Over the loud speaker comes the announcement that the “Scavenger Hunt” has started.

First we hear the pounding of footsteps from across the store. Then we hear giggling and squealing getting closer and closer. Christen and I looked at each other puzzled.

“There he is!!” a girl screamed with a finger pointed at MOPE as her six friends stopped running to gather around her.

Just then I snatched MOPE from the window sill for the girls could yank him from his perk. “Um, he’s mine,” I said.

The girls just looked bewildered. “He’s not part of the scavenger hunt,” I explained, clutching my MOPE tighter as the mob lunged forward.

“I told you he wasn’t part of it,” one girl whispered to another. And the girls disbanded, dejected they didn’t get to snatch our MOPE.

Christen and I just started laughing. If a 6-inch plastic replica of Robert Pattinson can almost start a riot, we can’t even imagine what happens when the real one is around.

Moral of the story: Be careful, ladies. Don’t leave your Pocket Edwards unattended

Since the term “Pocket Edward” has exploded, we thought we’d try our hand at renaming him. It isn’t easy. At all.

So while we love the name, we want to give Lauren’s Bite props for coming up with him (Woot! Woot!) And just like when naming a book, naming a teeny tiny version of our god can be very challenging, as well.

Twilight Newborns’ Renaming of Pocket Edward:

• Edward the Ming Reader (Copy editor FAIL on the package)
• Growth Spurt Edward – Just give him time. By Junior year, he’ll be like the other guys.
• Ol’ Stiff Legs – Yet another odd characteristic of our little man.
• Tiny Bad Guy/Tiny Lion/Tiny Monster – Depending on his mood.
• MOPBOH (My Own Personal Brand of Heroin) We like how this sounds…”Where Mop-bo go? The nature reserve, of course.”  (Btw MOPBOH–My Own Personal Brand of Heroine would work for Pocket Bella)
• FakePE – Might as well start this Twitter account now.
• Tickle Me Edward – He does tickle our fancy!
• Sir Sits-A-Lot – Cuz he can’t and we’re just mean!

So I thought it would be fun to take Melissa’s Pocket Edward to grad school with me. Initially, things went well. Edward turned some heads and started to get cocky. One of my classmates even bonded with Edward, and he rewarded her by showing her some funky dance moves to make her laugh. Who knew that Edward is the class clown?

From there, things went somewhat downhill. I took Edward over to introduce him to The Bad Girls in the Far Corner. I learned the hard way that they are not called The Bad Girls in the Far Corner for nothin’. They cornered Edward with their pink flask and their Camel Lights. What was Edward to do in the face of such peer pressure?

Can Edward resist?

At this point, The Bad Girls in the Far Corner abducted Edward. I heard Bad Girl #1 say “I’ve got an idea…. I need something like fabric.” Horrified, I tried to rescue Edward, but I was confined to my seat for the rest of the evening! I heard giggling, and I’m pretty sure Edward continued to take some sips from the pink flask. Finally, I was released and rushed over to save Party Animal Edward. He stumbled across the table, collapsed, and it was then that I noticed….

Edward, what had happened??

Edward was wearing pink pasties, and he was experiencing the most shame he had ever been subjected to. I lectured him all the way home about his loose morals and about the dangers of Bad Girls in the Far Corner. He mostly just moaned in pain, said “my head…”, and occasionally he would ask “Where am I?”

When we got home, Edward went straight to bed to stare at the ceiling for a few hours until whatever was in the pink flask wore off.

Why, Edward? Why?

Poor Edward. Corrupted by the evil influences of grad students. Hopefully he will be better behaved tomorrow.

We unconditionally and irrevocably give Lauren’s Bite credit for inventing Pocket Edward and his crazy adventures. It looked like so much fun we had to buy a Pocket Edward of our own.

Here he is, riding Dejeuner, podcasting mascot and mountain goat extraordinaire. Pocket Edward seems to be a huge fan of Bastian and Falkor the luckdragon from The Neverending Story. Even vampires need a ride every now and again.
